Deacon Cornell Whitley age 72 passed away Tuesday at his residence in Wilsons Mills. Mr. Whitley was born February 22, 1948 and was the son of George and Nora Jane Whitley.
Cornell was educated in the Johnston County Public School System and worked for many years at Fieldcrest Mills. Following the time worked at Fieldcrest Mills, Cornell became self-employed doing masonry work.
Cornell leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 42 years Sylvia Whitley, four children; JaDana Whitley, Rishawn Whitley, Antonio Mitchener, Michelle Vereen, thirteen brothers and sisters; Tommy Whitley, Pherbia Smith, Janet Poston, Marie Neal, Charles Whitley, Linda Warren, Carolyn Dobbin, Diane Ferrell, Ronald Whitley, Donald Whitley, Drew Whitley, Russell Whitley, Regina Whitley and host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
There will be walk thru viewing (max 19 persons at any one time) held Friday July 24th at the Walter Sanders Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel, 302 S. Bright Leaf Blvd Smithfield from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm. (Face Masks are required). The family (immediate family members only)
will hold private funeral services by invitation only due to coronavirus-19 precautions.
Services will be streamed on Facebook Live on Saturday July 25th at 11:25 am.
