James was a graduate of Smithfield-Selma Sr. High School, following high school he joined and served in the United States Navy. Following his time in the Navy he worked as an over the road Truck Driver until his health declined. 

Mr. Farmer was preceded in death by his parents James and Susie Farmer.

He leaves to cherish his memories children; Veronica Atkinson, Christopher Farmer, Latisha Dublin, Bridgette Farmer, James Arthur Farmer Jr., John Perkins, Alexandra Farmer, Jamie Farmer, brothers, Byron L. Farmer, Frederick A. Farmer, Vincent H. Farmer, Christopher D. Farmer, Charles M. McCullers, sisters, Valerie D. Farmer, and Jacqueline S. Farmer, several grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

The family will have a private ceremony. Thanks for your calls, text messages, emails and all the other acts of kindness shown during this time of bereavement.
