Mr. James Otis Elliott
James Otis Elliott "Big O" was born on September 27, 1949 to Walter and Hannah Elliott. He graduated from Forest Hills High School where he was a proud member of the drill team. In 1970 he joined the US Army where he honorably served his country for three years. After separating from the military, he joined the United States Postal Service, from which he retired in 2005. Having raised nine children and enjoyed countless Grand and god children, he was known as the ultimate family man. Nothing made him happier than to cook for family reunions, with his signature and widely enjoyed dish being pork bbq.
Otis was preceded in death by his oldest sister, Edna Lofton, younger brother, Earl, best buddy and cousin, Boyd “Pete” Elliott.
He leaves behind the love of his life wife, Miriam; nine children; Nakia Jackson, Tselane Elliott, Eric Elliott, Elvis Jamel “Mel” Elliott, Jarelle Carr, Jeff Carr, Tatanesha Hoo, Eric Smith, Maurice Hudson and a host of grandchildren who affectionately called him “Pa-Pa” or “Pop-Pop”; four beloved sisters; Juanita, Eunice, Mary (Lucy), and Barbara, sister in love; Willa "Tiant" Elliott his best buddies Charles Avery and cousin Roy Williams, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends, and community members.
Walk-thru viewing----Friday February 4, 2022 at the Walter Sanders Funeral & Cremations Chapel 302 S. Bright Leaf Blvd Smithfield, NC from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Facial coverings are required.
Funeral Services----Saturday February 5, 2022 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church 9030 Harnett-Dunn Highway Dunn, NC. Viewing from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon. Celebration of Life starts at 12:00 noon. Maxium allowed in the church will be 100 persons and facial coverings are required. Live streaming on our facebook page (Walter Sanders Funeral & Cremations) will start at 12:00 noon.
