Reverend Dr. Beatrice Reaves Penny was born on September 24, 1922 in Roland NC to the late Hezekiah and Florence Burch Reaves. She transitioned from labor to rest on February 5, 2022.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank L. Penny, Sr and her five siblings: Marguerite Sanders, Rosa Lee Watson, Annie Ruth Williams, Hezekiah Jr., and Carolyn Williams.
Reverend Penny graduated from Johnston County Training School (JCTS) in 1941. She recieved her B.A., Masters and PhD degrees after the age of 62. She was a faithful member of Mitchener Memorial Baptist Church. She was very active in many social, civic, religious and community organizations.
Reverend Penny leaves to cherish her memories five children, Regina Sanders, Joyce Penny, Frank L. Penny Jr., Marsha McIntosh, and Brenda Lynn and a special God-daughter Sarah Watson. Her ten grandchildren, Lisa Austin (Timothy), Carla Price (James) , Carmen Penny, Darryl Galloway, Tyrone Lynn (Tamika), Kelli Alderman (Charles), Gregory Lynn (Valisa), Tisha McIntosh, James Galloway (Kendra) and Jason Lynn. Twenty-four Great-grandchildren, fourth teen Great-great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, E. B. Penny and Lucy Washington, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Walk-Thru Viewing - Friday February 11, 2022 at the Walter Sanders Funeral & Cremations Chapel from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Facial coverings are required. If you have tested positive for Covid-19 within 10 days please refrain from coming.
Funeral Services - Saturday February 12, 2022 at Shiloh Christian Church 211 Durham St., Smithfield, NC viewing from 12:00 noon until 1:00pm with funeral services beginning at 1:00 pm. Live stream of services will be on our Facebook page starting at 12:55 pm. If you have tested positive for Covid-19 within 10 days please refrain from coming. Facial coverings and social distancing required while in the building.
