Mr. Kenneth Earl Austin

Kenneth Earl Austin was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on July 19, 1957, to the proud parents of Leonard Earl Austin and Velma Dublin Austin. Affectionately known as "Ken," he was the second of three children. He was baptized at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, where he faithfully served as an acolyte. 

Ken graduated from Germantown High School in 1975. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and later attended Lincoln University of Pennsylvania. He dedicated his professional life to helping others as a mental health counselor, beginning his career in Maryland before relocating to North Carolina. 

Married twice during his lifetime, Ken maintained a close and caring relationship with his first wife, Nona ("Nonie") Thompson Austin. Their union was blessed with three children: Tina Marie, Kenneth Earl Jr., and Leonard Arthur. 

Ken embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. An exceptional cook, he was well known for preparing his famous Friday seafood feasts, which family and friends eagerly anticipated each week. A passionate treasure hunter, he never passed up an opportunity to explore a yard sale or flea market in search of hidden gems. His latest "treasures" often found their way home, accompanied by stories of his adventures.

Ken leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life: his sister, Monique Austin of Smithfield, North Carolina; his brother, Sheldon Austin of Smithfield, North Carolina; his devoted daughter, Tina Marie Hall (Jerome) of Woodbridge, Virginia; his sons, Kenneth Earl Austin Jr. (Shari) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and Leonard Arthur Austin of Greenbelt, Maryland; his grandchildren, Janairo Hall, Kenneth Austin III, and Leonard Austin Jr.; and a host of beloved relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandsons, Tavon Hall and Trace Hall.

Ken's kindness, humor, generosity, and love for family will be remembered by all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched throughout his life.

The Family will receive guests at 103 East Parker St Smithfield, NC during the following times: Wednesday September 30th - Friday October 2nd from 4:00pm until 7:00pm.

Viewing: Friday Oct. 2, 2026, at Walter Sanders Funeral & Cremation Services 302 S. Bright Leaf Blvd Smithfield, NC from 1:00pm - 4:00pm.

Funeral Service: Saturday Oct. 3, 2026, at St. Mark AME Church 409 Bridge St., Smithfield, NC., 10:00am - 11:00am and funeral services beginning at 11:00am.
