Charles E. Williams, age 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, while a resident at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC.
Born on December 5, 1941, to the late Clarence and Thelma Williams, Charles was educated in the Johnston County School system and attended J.C.T.S. He went on to serve Honorably in the United States Army. Following his service, he earned an associate degree in Automotive Maintenance and dedicated over 20 years as a Civilian Engineer at Fort Bragg.
In addition to his professional career, Charles was deeply committed to his community. He faithfully served the people of East Smithfield as a Town Councilmember for 25 years, leaving a legacy of leadership, dedication, and service.
Charles leaves to cherish his memory his wife; Wilhmenia Williams, two children; Antoine Jerel Williams and Ashica J.W. Coleman; mother of his two children; Linda W. Williams, and his sister; Mattie Jean Haley; granddaughter; Caleeaya I Coleman, along with a host of other relatives, friends, and a grateful community who will remember his life of service and kindness.
The family will receive guest at 1029 Broadway Street, Smithfield Tuesday and Wednesday September 23-24, from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm

Thursday September 25, 2025, at the Walter Sanders Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm.
Funeral Service: Friday September 26, 2025, at St. Peter Church of Christ Disciples of Christ 1011 E. Massey St., Smithfield, NC 27577 at 11:30 am with viewing from 11:00 am until 11:30 am.

Message: Shirley and I are deeply sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Charles E. Williams.
Mr. Charles E. Williams served as a Town Councilmember in Smithfield, North Carolina, for 25 years. His long tenure reflects a deep commitment to public service and community leadership. He loved God and the people he served. He always shared an encouraging word to me and everyone he met.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Mr. Charles E. Williams. His presence touched many lives, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May you find comfort in the love that surrounds you and strength in the legacy he leaves behind.
