Mr. James Bryan Koonce, Jr.
It is with heartfelt sympathy that we announce James Bryan Koonce, Jr., 37, of Smithfield, North Carolina, departed this life on March 14, 2023. He was the son of Ann Calton Koonce of Smithfield, NC and James Koonce, Sr., of Columbus, GA.
JB was born on December 19, 1985 in Raleigh, NC. As a child he was adventurous and had a deep love for animals and people. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. JB attended Fuquay – Varina High School and for many years worked as a tile subcontractor. He was truly a master craftsman. Some of his projects included work done for a congressman and a college basketball coach. Some of his work was even featured in Southern Living Magazine.
JB never knew a stranger and his kind and generous heart was always willing to give help. He had a strong love for The Lord and his family. He was truly loved and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, JB is survived by his siblings, Kathryn Brewington, April Koonce and Jonathan Koonce (Stephanie), his maternal grandmother: Betty D. Calton, an aunt: Donna Calton, uncles: Wilburn Calton, Matthew Calton, David Calton (Michelle), and Kenny Koonce, nieces: Savanna, Isabella, and Madison, and nephews: Nate, Noah, and Levi. Mr. Koonce also leaves behind a host of beloved cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
The family will hold private services with interment at 4:00PM on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at Sunnyside Ridge Family Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions in JB’s honor be made to the animal rescue shelter of your choice. Condolences may be left on our website at www.waltersandersfuneralhome.com
