Mrs. Alice Williams Bynum Richardson
Mrs. Alice Williams Bynum Richardson was born March 16, 1938 to Lawrence and Amanda Williams. Mrs. Richardson transitioned peacefully on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Johnston UNC Health in Smithfield, NC. Mrs. Richardson attended public school in Johnston County and graduated from Johnston County Training School (J.C.T.S.) and later attended Cortez Business College, Washington DC. Alice has been a long time member of St. Peter Disciples Church of Christ, Smithfield, NC. She served as Assistant Church Clerk, Church Announcer every 4th Sunday, and Floral Club Member. She also worked many years at First Citizens Bank in Smithfield, NC, as a Bookkeeper and worked at Carolina Pottery Outlet Center. Mrs. Richardson served her community in many capacities most notably as the Director of the Miss. Black Teenage World Pageant.
She was preceded in death by her husband David Richardson, parents, Lawrence and Amanda Williams, and son Kovac Bynum.
Mrs. Alice Williams Bynum Richardson, leaves to cherish her loving memories two children; Angela Bynum of Smithfield, NC and Manwell (Laura) Bynum of Charlotte, NC, five step daughters, Clara R. Scarborough of Durham, NC., Elsie R. Carter and Laverne Richardson of Knightdale, NC., and Jacqueline Marriott of Inglewood CA., three step sons, Severia Richardson of Knightdale, NC., Andre Richardson (Gilistine) of Wendell, NC., and Nathaniel Richardson (Evangeline) of Knightdale, NC., two grandchildren; Cameron Bynum, Gabrielle Bynum, seven step grandsons, two step granddaughters, two step great grandsons, two step grand great granddaughters, a brother, Harold K. Sanders, and sister, Betty Jean Bishop, a host of other relatives and friends.
Due to Covid-19 concerns the family would like to restrict home visitations to immediate family please. Your thoughts and prayers are welcomed. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
Viewing: Thursday, March 24, 2022 at the Walter Sanders Funeral & Cremation Services, 302 S. Bright Leaf Blvd., Smithfield, NC 27577 from 12:00 noon until 5:00 pm. Due to Covid-19 concerns everyone will be required to wear facial coverings.
Funeral Services: Due to Covid-19 the Graveside Services will be held privately on Friday, March 25, 2022. Services will be live streamed starting at 11:00 am on our Facebook page.
The family also would ask those sending flowers, please address them to Walter Sanders Funeral & Cremation Services 302 S. Bright Leaf Blvd Smithfield, NC 27577 to be delivered no later than Thursday March 24, 2022.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Smithfield-Selma Alumni Association in memory of Alice W. Bynum Richardson. This organization awards scholarships to minority students of Smithfield-Selma Sr. High School alumni. Checks can be made payable to: Smithfield Selma Alumni Association PO Box 570 Selma, NC 27576.
